I posted, or rather attempted to post, this over that the Yahoo group 4 hours or so ago, and since it hasn't appeared yet, I'll ask it here. I know C&J were scheduled to do a 15 minute performance at J&R's 2 weeks ago, and that a video of Summer Song did eventually surface on YouTube. Does anyone know what other songs were performed? Was anyone from the Yahoo group in attendance? Just curious is all. Their disappointingly short recorded visit to Bruce Morrow's Sirius show on 10/28 certainly offered no clues, so if anyone can help out with an answer, thanks in advance :).
I'm not being paranoid (yet), but with my last 2 of 3 posts missing over the past week, I may have worn out my welcome somehow over on Yahoo, so maybe I'll keep concentrating on this place. That said, I noted Caswell's comment that Jerry Burgan and 2 other members of We Five (may have been Jerry's wife and son, for that matter) were at the C&J show in Glendora, CA recently, so I dug out a couple of We Five LP's that I hadn't listened to in years. It's odd, but we all remember You Were on My Mind, their only major hit (Wiki claims Let's Get Together hit # 31 in 1967, but I only remember the Youngblood's better, more popular version), and nothing else on their LPs with Bev Bivens as lead singer comes close to having a rock feel to it. As was typical of LP cuts in the mid 60's, songs from Broadway shows like Tonight and There's a Place for Us, pop covers like Darin's Beyond the Sea and Johnny Mathis' Small World, as well as Our Day Will Come, and My Favorite Things, sort of dominated these first 2 LP's. All very well done, and still very enjoyable, but nevertheless very much more MOR or AOR, than rock and roll. Well, it surprised me, anyway. (I must confess to noticing that their version of I've Got Plenty of Nothin did sort of get a Mersey beat kinda thing going with it, but for no good reason that I could think of, so I ignored it)
That's it. Watch for my post re: J&R's on Yahoo, maybe it will surface someday. Right now, I need to see if the meat has defrosted for chili. And beer.
