Chad and Jeremy were no strangers to TV audiences when they appeared on the Dick Van Dyke show in an episode entitled "The Redcoats Are Coming !," originally broadcast on 2/10/65. They'd already appeared on 4 episodes of Thank Your Lucky Stars in 1963 and 1964, the Hollywood Palace also in 1964, and the pilot of Where the Action Is, in January of 1965. The Dick Van Dyke episode (season 4, episode 20) was a spoof on Beatlemania (stressing the mania part), and given the talent of the entire cast, is still as enjoyable today as it was 44 years ago. Yeah, they mug it up a bit, and don't have a heck of a lot of lines, but they did do snippets of 2 songs (I Don't Want No Other Baby, and My How The Time Goes, which were both from Sing For You, released in January of 1965) and were engaging, and genuinely entertaining.
The following week, to the day, they appeared on the Patty Duke show with a lot more to say. Given the fact that If I Loved You first hit NYC radio on February 7, it was a pretty busy media month for them (or at least a busy 2 weeks).
So, this has been broadcast on TV Land, and is available as part of the boxed sets of the Dick Van Dyke Show, that you can either buy, rent from NetFlix, or if your local library is as fantastic as the one in Greenwich, CT, is, you can check it out there. A quick check of YouTube turned up a clip of My How The Time Goes, but not the show itself. You can find the Patty Duke episode there, in three parts, which is neat because her series hasn't been released on DVD as yet.
Anyway, I need to get back to cutting my lawn. More sooner or later :).
