I thought $3.98 was good for this in VG++ condition. 1966 release, bootleg, with alternate versions, as follows. I put the list together from Jason's great web site, which you can find in my links sections, under "Old Site";
1) "If I Loved You" - Appears on the Fidu bootleg LP with an extra "ooh" in the fade out, as well as a slightly messed up ending. A very subtle, yet distinct difference. Otherwise, it sounds very much like the same take, like most of the other Fidu alternates. This is because the duo would sometimes patch in "wild" vocals over the mistakes in otherwise good takes. The Fidu LP has the "unfixed" vocals in several cases.
2) “My Coloring Book” - Another alternate take from the Fidu LP. In this take, they are flat in places, but enunciate much more clearly than on the standard released version.
3) “What Do You Want With Me” - On this alternate take, also from the Fidu LP, they go off mike a couple of times, and deliver the lines in a much more relaxed way than on the standard take.
4) “From A Window” - This Fidu alternate has no guitar solo, and subtle differences in the vocal.
5) “If You’ve Got A Heart” - Another early take from the Fidu LP. The vocal is a bit rough here, and the instrumentation is different in parts.
6) “No Other Baby” - This Fidu alternate has, like most of them, a rough vocal, and other subtle differences. Check out Jeremy’s botched ending. This ending was cleaned up for release, but a *real* careful listening to the released version has some leak into another mike, revealing the mistake!
7) "Donna Donna" - The Fidu LP contains a different stereo mix of the released version of this track.
8) "The Girl From Ipanema" - An alternate stereo mix of this with different instrument placings and the triangle part mixed very low is on the Fidu LP.
9) "Four Strong Winds" - The Fidu LP features a different stereo mix that has different instrument placings and is much dryer than the standard mix.
10) “Only Those In Love” - Another early take from the Fidu LP. Almost indistinguishable from the standard take, except for them saying “that” instead of “but” in a few places.
11) "You Know What?" - This Fidu version has the fast guitar part, and a generally rougher mix, but much more balanced that the other "fast guitar" mix (the original US LP).
12) "Sleep Little Boy" - The Fidu LP features an alternate stereo mix of this track with different instrumental placings.
13) "My How The Time Goes By” - An extra “my” towards the end is all that betrays this as an alternate take. Again, only on the Fidu bootleg LP.
14) "A Very Good Year" - The only worldwide stereo release of this track ever is on the stereo Fidu LP.
15) "The Nearness Of You" - This version of the song was only issued on the unauthorized "5+10=15" LP, issued on Fidu Records.
So, in 10 to 15 days, I'll let you know how VG++ relates to real life sound. And, as this is a 42 year old bootleg as it is, maybe we'll have some sounds available. Maybe :).
More later.
